October 12, 2013 Detroit Michigan (WXYZ) – A teenage father is locked up tonight, accused in the death of his infant daughter.
Wednesday night, Washtenaw County Sheriff’s deputies were called to an apartment at the Fairway Trails apartment complex for an unresponsive 5-month-old baby.
Rescue crews rushed the infant to St. Joseph Mercy Hospital, where she died. Doctors say 5-month-old Amareah Nelson had extensive injuries, including a fractured skill, lacerated liver, retinal hemorrhages and fractured ribs.
Deputies say the child’s 19-year-old father, Davontah Lee Nelson, was home alone with Amareah and his 18-month-old son. They say he is responsible for the injuries that resulted in her death.
Nelson was arraigned on charges of 1st Degree Child Abuse and Felony Murder.
He is being held without bond at the Washtenaw County Jail.
