Derrick Ray Arrested for; Throwing Bottles Of Urine and Feces, at Chicago P.D. Officer.

September 7, 2013 Chicago Illinois – A man who allegedly threw bottles of urine at police in the Uptown neighborhood Wednesday night has been charged with battering a police officer.

Derrick Ray, 41, was charged with three felony counts of aggravated battery of a peace officer, three misdemeanor counts of resisting a peace officer, and one misdemeanor count of criminal trespass, police said.

Police found Ray after they responded to the 4600 block of North Broadway about 9:40 p.m. for a report of criminal trespass to property, News Affairs Officer Hector Alfaro said.

When officers tried to remove Ray from the area where he was not allowed to be, he resisted and sprayed them with pepper spray and two bottles of bodily fluid, police said.

The officers were taken to Advocate Illinois Masonic Medical Center for treatment and observation, police said.

On his Twitter account, Ald. James Cappleman (46th) praised the officers, and said the man was “quite combative with police.”

“For years, people have expressed fear of getting harmed by him,” Cappleman tweeted.

The man suffers from severe mental health issues and has been living in the area around Broadway and Wilson for about three years, Cappleman said, adding the man was taken to a hospital for treatment.

Ray, who police said lived in the 1500 block of West Fargo Avenue, is expected in bond court Thursday.
