США иммиграции и таможенного (ICE) – 223 человек были опрошены; аресты, Аризона
August 19, 2013 Phoenix Arizona (ABC15) Federal investigators interviewed 223 people, arrested 14 and took 30 into custody following Valley-wide raids on 16 Danny’s Family Car Wash businesses, officials said Sunday.
The 14 people placed under federal criminal arrest included four U.S. citizens and 10 Mexican nationals, said Amber Cargile, a U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement spokeswoman.
Thirty individuals were taken into custody by ICE Enforcement and Removal Operations for immigration enforcement processing, based on prior criminal and/or immigration histories, Cargile said.
The rest of those questioned, 179, qualified for “prosecutorial discretion” and were released within hours, she said.
“ICE is focused on sensible, effective immigration enforcement that prioritizes the removal of criminal aliens and egregious immigration law violators,” Cargile said in a Sunday press release.
The operation was not an immigration raid with the purpose of rounding up undocumented workers, but involved very specific criminal charges, Cargile said Saturday.
The raids capped a two-year federal investigation into Danny’s Family Car Wash involving alleged immigration fraud, identity theft and financial violations, Cargile said.
Company officials have not responded to several requests for comment throughout the weekend.
Details of the alleged violations were unavailable Sunday. Cargile said a grand-jury indictment was sealed in U.S. federal court until after the defendants’ initial appearances on Monday.
ICE Homeland Security Investigations executed federal search warrants and arrest warrants at the company’s locations as well as the company’s outside staffing-services provider, HR Betty.
Defendants included managers, Cargile said.
“Since 2009, ICE has kind of shifted its work-site enforcement strategy, so we focus now on the arrest of the employers and managers (and) supervisors rather than coming in with these large-scale enforcement actions that focus solely on workers,” she said during the raids.
